SkyMap 3.1

A Virtual Planetarium

SkyMap 3.1 provides the amateur and professional stargazer an unprecedented view of the night sky from any point on Earth.

Just tap in the latitude , longtitude and any date from 4000BC to 8000AD. SkyMap will then give a view of the planets and deep space objects in the sky for that date. To make things work from the moment you install the software many preprogrammed locations around the world in Britain, the USA and Australia are already included.

The toolbar allows you to quickly change view so that the sky can be observed looking north, south east or west. By zooming into an object you can get further details including a tracking map annotated with dates to show you where the object will be in the sky at a particular time and it's route.

To add interest to the display of objects you can assign graphic images that pop up on a mouse click. These images can be GIF's or BMP's downloaded from Compuserve, the Internet or taken from astronomy based CDROM's. Also supported in the NASA PDS images so you can include pictures sent back by Voyager and Viking. These images are downloadable from NASA's Internet site.

SkyMap is a great program for budding Astronomers everywhere - it includes an auto-installer which will detect which windoes you are running and install the appropriate 16 or 32 bit version.
